One option other than laser tattoo removal for those who wish to undergo tattoo removal is to have a doctor surgically remove them with tattoo excision.  I’m not talking about laser tattoo removalhere.  I mean that a doctor actually uses a scalpel to cut the tattooed skin away and then sews it back together. This method of tattoo removal is called surgical tattoo excision.  It’s probably not the best option when comparing tattoo removal prices.

Some times gang tattoos are removed by surgical excision because they ex-gang member wants the tattoo removed fast. In some cases, Doctors have been known to offer special pricing for ex-gang members.

My understanding is that tattoo excision is done while the patient is awake.  The doctor gives the patient several injections of a numbing agent on and around the tattooed skin.  When the area is sufficiently numb so that patient will not feel any pain, the doctor cuts around the outline of the tattoo.  The cut area of skin is then cut away.  The doctor will then pull the skin together and stitch the wound up.

Special precautions need to be taken by the patient to ensure that the area does not get infected.  Tattoo excision is suitable for small tattoos but it’s not such a good idea for larger tattoos.  Larger tattoos can be removed with this method but skin grafts are usually required.

Needless to say, this method of tattoo removal is the most invasive way of ridding yourself of that unwanted tattoo.  I can’t imagine choosing this option when there are tattoo removal creams on the market.
